In analyzing Ephesians 2:8-9, I saw that the “this is not of your own, but a gift from god” has been debated regarding if faith is a gift from God and not one’s own doing or if salvation itself being by grace through faith is the gift. Regardless of whichever a better reading is, I am wondering if the passage is saying that we don’t play any role in our salvation (a more Calvinist perspective) or if there is room for us to hold some responsibility or role in our salvation? I would like to think that God does not withhold the opportunity for salvation from some and not others but I am curious about what this passage and the rest of the Bible has to say about whether we have a choice in being saved? Thanks!
