In my journey to understand the bible better one of the things that I noticed, but never hear talked about, is that a lot of the Bible, specifically the Hebrew Scriptures, seem to be written before the concepts of infinity and zero were invented (600-400 BCE). So when those pre-infinity concept parts of the bible talk about eternity, what are they talking about? If eternity/infinity in those parts of the bible is NOT the same linear mathematical framework we have, what is it? Is it written back into old texts at a later date? Is it a different concept altogether? Is something eternal in the oldest texts just referring to something that is happening in the present progressive tense? Any insight would be helpful. I think I’ve been reading my modern mathematical concepts into ancient literature on levels I never conceived of. Thank you.
What is eternity?
