On the one hand, this idea is very incarnational and treats human physicality in a good light. On the other hand, researchers tell us that all humanity from all of history would be like 100 billion people and it’s literally impossible for the Earth to support that many people, which is something ancient biblical authors couldn’t have had any clue about. I read one person musing online that “we’d all be drowning in our own poo before God even got finished judging us.” 🙂 I realize this question is complicated because it’s mixed up with questions of eschatology and the nature of life after death, but I’ve not been able to find a single podcast or book that addresses this topic from a more progressive lens. Is the idea of a general resurrection just outdated and needs to be seen as metaphor? And if so are we throwing out the goodness of physicality with it?
What do we do with the idea of a general bodily resurrection for all humanity?
