Okay. I know this kind of isn’t a Bible question. I’m currently Methodist, and I really enjoy partaking in The Metaphor, but as a young Catholic child I asked my teachers this question and I don’t think they ever answered me. I have to know some perspectives.
I’ll be honest. When I think about this question, my answer is yes. If the Eucharist is really, actually Jesus and Jesus is fully God and fully human, then I think that we are eating a human being.
(And, as someone informed me when I brought this question up casually, aversion to cannibalism is a result of colonialism. So maybe me thinking this is a big thing is in itself oppressive. So maybe it is just cannibalistic and it’s not a big deal and Jesus understood what Jesus was saying and also didn’t think it was a big thing. I don’t know.)
But. I would really love for y’all to have a Catholic guest on to speak about if the (projected) President-Elect of the United States does or does not engage in weekly cannibalistic rituals with his wife. The world deserves to know the truth.
